In my last post I talked about status page design and what I thought was effective, however, I didn't bother to search for any studies or sites featuring 404 status page galleries :(

So, yesterday I poked around and found two awesome sites. In 2007 Smashing Magazine posted a really great gallery of 404 status page designs. They include screen shots of the various designs but don't go much into usability or anything of that nature.

The other site I came across was 404 research lab's site. This is a whole site dedicated to 404's which has links to many designs from around the web and is organized categorically. They also include some useful tips among other bits of info.
